Event Pecha Kucha (Chengdu, China)
Role Speaker

Whilst spending time lecturing at a Design academy in Chongqing, I was invited to speak at the first PechaKucha event in neighbouring city Chengdu.

'The art of concise presentations. PechaKucha Night, now in over 900 cities, was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. PechaKucha 20x20 is a simple presentation format where you show 20 images, each for 20 seconds. The images advance automatically and you talk along to the images.'

I chose to tell the story of an inspiring coffee shack owner in Chongqing. The story of Halfu and his small, surprising, creative coffee company. A young coding entrepreneur, Halfu Chow created a special tech and refreshments retreat, all out of a simple square window. A beauty of a story and a huge reminder to appreciate the small things. That authenticity, dedication and honesty are the most valuable marketing assets. The book sitting on his shelf was Malcom Gladwell's David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits and the Art of Battling Giants. Thank you Halfu, you are most definitely a David. His story was a big hit and a reminder if ever I needed one that these are the stories people care about and what I enjoy sharing.
