Point of View

“Point of View” captures the unreliability of documentation whereupon a figure photographs her sketchbook; the alternating points of view jump from the viewer’s gaze to the girl’s scrutiny to her camera’s focus to her physical drawing. The moment remains shrouded in ambiguity. While the figure may be documenting finished art, she may also be creating art in the process of photography itself. Although the memory is preserved in the form of this painting, the intent of the subject dissolves into the past.

The shifts in perspective blur the realities of a singular instant in time by offering an intimate glimpse into the layers of translation that a memory undergoes, even after being preserved by documentation.
