According to the Guttmacher Institute, a 50-year old independent nonprofit policy research institute, in 2016 alone 18 states enacted 50 new abortion restrictions, bringing the number of new abortion restrictions enacted since 2010 to 338.

I feel very strongly about a woman's right to choose and I will vote, protest, design and write tirelessly in support of the right to an abortion. In 2015, I had to abort a non-viable fetus in the 21st week of my pregnancy. If I lived in one of the 17 states, in which abortions past the 20th week are prohibited except when they endanger the life of the mother, I would have had to carry this fetus to term, even though it had no chance of surviving. 

Bans on abortion don't reduce abortions, but they do eliminate the safe and hygienic practices for protecting women who search out such a procedure. I hope we never go back to the days of herbal concoctions and wire hangers.
