"Pixels", 30 in. X 20 in., Paper Collage, 2010
Building Confidence, Block by Block, Square by Square by Square, Pixel by Pixel...To Become Strong
I started the summer, age 16, insecure, unsure, unstable, questioning my own skills, and ability. I hated begin photographed. I hated seeing myself. Then a friend took a photograph which started as a tiny print for a self portrait. The image grew and all the sudden it was life size outline of no one other than myself. It began to build up from a pencil silhouette to shapes made of endless colored squares. My essences appeared layered in each square, my confidence grew like a tower. The body became strong and solid. The face, stern, almost acknowledging the viewer but unmoved, not caring what you thought about her and her sunglasses. A house built. A temple created. I was a piece of art. I was stunning. I felt beautiful. I felt proud. I felt strong. And form then on I didn't question my foundation, I knew without a doubt, I was an artist.
Vote for my piece please!
