“  天青色等烟雨,而我在等你。”
The sky is blue enough to expect the rain;
for you, I am waiting, however in vain.

1. BACKGROUND

I chose this line from Jay Chou's famous song, Blue and White Porcelain, for my expressive typography project, as it reminds me of the mysterious and romantic ancient Chinese culture. The lyric writer, Wenshan Fang created a beautiful metaphor for the colour of the porcelain and love. The porcelain is a special sky blue colour which is only shown after a rainfall. In order to see this beautiful colour, you have to wait patiently for a rainfall, just as the case when you are waiting for your loved one.

2. CONCEPT

Representing the Mood

I felt melancholy, lonely, as well as dreamy while listening to the song. To represent these feelings in a more concrete way,
I associated them with the motion of raindrops, and the texture created by the Chinese Calligraphy brush.

3. PROCESS

Experiments

Layouts
Eventually, I decided to use Chinese characters because they are more expressive and have richer variety in shapes. Also, the language itself has a sense of mystery and dynamism.
