Description: My Maya classes had begun and as usual we had modelling to begin with. My tutor at MAAC had asked us to model a chess board in Maya for our assignment. So I began modelling the pawn, queen, king, bishop and the rook using basic spline primitives and then revolved the spline curve to produce a NURBS surface followed by some shaping. The horse was modeled from a cube by the process of geometry blocking.

After modelling the entire scene, I didn't want to leave it with that. I wanted to texture, light and render the scene. Since my classes on texturing, lighting and rendering hadn't begun in Maya, I exported the file as an object waveform (.obj) and brought it into Cinema 4D to add textures and lights. I used simple black and white textures for the chess pieces, a checkerboard texture for the board and a simple wood texture for the boundaries. I used a spot light for the lighting and turned on its visibility to volumetric which gives the scene a foggy effect. The final image was rendered using the default renderer in Cinema 4D with ambient occlusion and global illumination turned on.
Below is a wireframe of the above scene.
