Calvary Assembly of God needed a new name for their church. This was a church plant that had been in existence for a year, and not many people were attending yet. When the first pastor stepped down, and made room for a person who had a vision as to the direction of where God could take this church, another name was appropriate. New Beginnings was chosen among a list of several names that would speak to people that had never gone to church before. The congregation felt that this name describes the inner life of a born again Christian, where the old self is put to rest in favor of a new life in ones soul, as God's Spirit breaths life into a person who turns their life over to Jesus. The butterfly symbolizes a similar kind of metamorphosis... a creature that was only able to crawl and eat leaves turns into one that can soar...
