In May 2016, Zean Cabangis exhibited Carnival of Scenes at Artinformal’s Big Room. The work is comprised of 100 collages, installed in one space, covering two walls.
On February 2017, the gallery released the book with limited edition of 100, signed print editions of the 100 collages. These prints are hard bound with perforations, to allow each print to be framed.

One hundred photographs serve as substantial souvenir from a journey. The number—round and even, and relatively abundant—is enough to be considered as a thorough survey of the land. The scenes that can be detected from these photographs, which are monochromatic and at times appearing vintage and faded, are sui generis—unique in their almost banal and pedestrian appearance, setting them apart from the pastoral and romantic images by previous painters. These are ‘occurrences,’ or documents from a particular journey. They are gathered to form a view that is open for transformation. They speak of a place where a subject’s existence looms, and is manifested through colors of paint. These are intrusions—where imagination interacts with actuality, and where Cabangis, more than anything else, opens himself up to the process of intervention.

Zean Cabangis took his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Major in Painting, from the College of Fine Arts, University of the Philippines, Diliman (2007). He won Most Outstanding Thesis of 2006. A consistent college scholar, Zean was given an Artist-in-Residence at SAGER, Tenggara, Yogyakarta, Indonesia (2011). He was also a recipient of the Thirteen Artists Award, given by the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 2015. Zean has had eleven solo shows and numerous group exhibitions in various local and international galleries. He was shortlisted for Ateneo Art Awards in 2012, 2013, and 2014. Zean has also been an exhibiting artist at local and international art fairs such as Art Stage Singapore 2013, Art Fair Philippines 2013, 2015, and 2016 and Art Basel Hong Kong 2017.
