Web Page Composition: Paragraph Styles

This project was created for an online typography course, to prove an increasing grasp of the concepts of design and elements of type. The web page composition was required to include predominantly typographical elements, but also elements common to web pages as a whole, including a header, footer, navigation, search bar, headers, body type, images, and blockquote. In addition to meeting these requirements, each composition needs to demonstrate an understanding of principles of design such as scale, proportion, and alignment. The project also needed to use consistent styles for the type, such that all body copy would be formatted the same, all headers, etc., to provide for the easiest possible reading and navigation experience for the reader.

The project moved through several stages of development, with the first step being a very rough draft that was essentially a content dump that categorized the different styles of type used in the final webpage. Once the type styles were categorized, each style was formatted to stand distinct as compared to the other styles, unifying each particular style. After this, a header and footer were added with navigation, and digital refinements were made to create the final composition.

The fonts used for the project were Baskerville and Bodoni, Baskerville for the type in the main content area, and Bodoni for the header and footer type.
