El 11 de marzo del 2011, como recuerdan, un terremoto de tremenda fuerza azotó Japón y provocó además un devastador tsunami y una catástrofe nuclear. Inmediatamente después de conocerse el desastre, la buena gente de CFSL.net, web francesa de arte digital, creó una convocatoria para reunir ilustraciones alusivas a Japón y al desastre, con el fin de realizar una exhibición, una subasta de las piezas y editar un libro de colección con ellas. El dinero recaudado fue entregado a la fundación Give2Asia para continuar con los esfuerzos de aliviar la catástrofe.
Usé al Kabutomushi o escarabajo "casco de samurai", típico y muy popular en Japón, como símbolo de lucha y tenacidad.
Para mí es un honor que mi dibujo fuese seleccionado para la recopilación; es una oportunidad única de ayudar en algo a un país del que tengo sólo los mejores recuerdos, y al que ansío regresar algún día. Además, el libro está lleno de excelentes trabajos deilustradores de todo el mundo!
In March 11th, 2011, as you remember, a tremendously strong earthquake rattled Japan and also caused a devastating tsunami and a nuclear catastrophe. Right after news of the disasters hit the rest of the world, the good people at CFSL.net, French website of digital art, called for artists to send in illustrations with their take on these events. The exhibition, the auction and the book compiling these images made a good amount of money, which was given to Give2Asia foundation to support their relief efforts on the afflicted regions.
I used the Kabutomushi or Samurai helmet beetle as a symbol of Japanese tenacity and will to fight.
It was quite an honor for me to have this drawing selected for the compilation; it was a unique chance to help a country of which I have only the best and fondest memories. Besides, the book is filled with really cool art form illustrators from all over the world!
