“ Melek Tawus’un Çocukları: Yezidiler” isimli çalışmamda, Yezidi dininin efsane ve mitlerini dijital ortamda kurguladım.
Yeryüzündeki onlarca dini yapı içinden Yezidileri seçmemdeki neden, öncelikle yaşadığımız coğrafyada ve komşu coğrafyalarda yaklaşık 900 yıllık bir tarihe sahip Yezidilik dininden, gözlemlediğim kadarıyla birçok kişinin haberdar olmadığıdır.Bunun yanında yaşadıkları yanlış anlaşılmalar ve dışlanmalar nedeni ile sayılarının yok olmaya yüz tutması, bende bu halkı insanlara anlatma isteği doğurdu.
Öncelikle dinin tarihini ve özelliklerini araştırmam gerekliydi. Araştırma kısmında çok fazla kaynağa ulaşamasam da, bu konuda Avrupa da yapılmış birkaç önemli çalışmaya ulaştım ve kitap, internet gibi kaynakları kullandım. Maalesef ki; çok istememe rağmen herhangi bir yezidiyle görüşme imkanı bulamadım.
Amacımın Yezidileri insanlara anlatmak olduğundan, çalışmamın belgesel bir tavrı da bulunmaktadır. Bunu Yezidilerin yaşadığı bölgelere gidip belgesel fotoğraf anlayışıyla çalışmamamın nedeni, amacımın onların şu anki sosyal ve kültürel yapılarını anlatmak değil (araştırmam sırasında bu konuda birçok belgesel çalışmanın yapıldığını da gördüm), dinlerinin yaratılış efsanelerini ve mitlerini aktarmaktı. Bunu en iyi ve etkili şekilde dijital manipülasyon tekniği ile yapabilirdim.Bütün bunların ışığında efsanevi ve mitsel bir konuyu en iyi anlatabileceğim ortamın bilgisayar ortamı olduğunu düşündüğümden, tez çalışmamı bu alanda gerçekleştirdim.
Yezidilik inancının yaratılış efsanelerini, mitlerini, geleneklerini ve kültlerini kendi eleştirel yorumumu katmadan, belgeci bir üslupla fakat gerçek üstü tasarımlara giderek, insanlara aktarmak istedim. Amacım merak uyandıran, şaşırtan, etkili, görüntüler üretmekti.
Fotoğrafların görsel karakterini oluştururken kaotik, mistik ve efsanevi bir yapı oluşturmayı amaçladım ve bu amaçla resimsi ve farklı dokular, karanlık atmosferler, eskitme efekti ve monokrom bir renk kullandım.
Son üç fotoğraf dışında bütün fotoğraflar yaratılış efsanesini ve meleke tawus kültünü betimlemektedir.Diğer üç fotoğraf ise benim yakın hissettiğim ve en belirgin geleneklerini içermekte.
In my work which I have named as "Children of Tawus the Angel: Yezidies", I assembled the legends and the myths of Yezidi religion by digital techniques.
My primary reason for choosing Yezidies among many religions in the world is that Yezidi Religion which has approximately nine hundred years of history in my own and border countries, has not been recognised and known by most people. In additon to this because of the the misunderstandigs and the alienation and isolation they have been through their population decraesed and nearly fading; which gave me the will to introduce this community.
Since my aim is describing Yezdies, my work has a documentary altitude. The reason I have not worked on the subject by going to the regions where they live and shoot with the documentary style is because what I wanted was not showing their social and cultural structure, it was introducing their creation legends and myths. I could do this by creating photos myself with the digital manipulation techniques on the computer most effectively.
I wanted to explain the creation legends and myths of Yezidi belief, without adding my own critising and comments, with a documentary genre but by reaching to the surrealistic designs. My aim was to create visions that raise curiosity, surprise and effect the viewer.
I aimed to create a chaotic, mystic and legendary structure while I was creating the visual characteristics of the photographs and for this I used pictorial and different textures, dark atmospheres, wearing out effects and a monochrome colour.
All the photographs except the last three represent their creation legends and the cults of Tawus the angel. The other three photographs include the traditions which I personally feel close and the most significant ones.

Accoarding to Kitab El Aswad, God initially created Tawus the angel to warn his chosen community and to keep them away from mistakes. Tawus the angel is the holy angel for Yezidies. Peacock is their holy symbol.

After Tawus the angel, God craeted six more angels, so that with Tawus the Angel they could create the universe together.

God from his own self created the white pearl, and a bird whose name was Anfar. And placed the pearl on Anfar's back and he sat for forty thousand years.

Tawus the angel rose, he held the pearl in his hand, he screamed and the pearl seperated into four parts.

The pearl broke and water spread all over. The earth was set as a sphere without any scarps.

Tawus the Angel told Adam to eat wheat in spite that God has forbid, Adam ate the wheat, he felt uncomfortably full, he felt pain since he din not have anus.

In the beginning there was nothing, with God's command a tree rose, the eternal tree. Tawus the Angel who has flown in darkness for ninety thousand years has landed on this tree and waited for God's orders.

Yezidies turn their faces to the sun and pray three times a day. Sun is holy for them.
Photo9:Ring
A Yezidi around whom a circle was drown, cannot get out of it unless it is not erased by the person who has drawn it. Circe is holy for them, it is accepted as the place where they actualize themselves.

In Yezidi beliefs pieces of cloth are tied to the tree of wishes and the person who cannot have a child, puts a cradle under the tree so that he or she can have a child.

Anfar
Tanrı, kendi özünden Beyaz İnci'yi yarattı; ve bir kuş yarattı ki adı Anfar'dı. Ve inciyi onun sırtına koydu, ve orada kırk bin yıl oturdu.
Melek Tawus ve İnci
Melek Tawus kalktı inciyi eline aldı ve bir bağırdı inci dört parçaya ayrıldı.
İnci Kırıldı
İnci kırıldı her tarafa sular fışkırdı.Dünya uçurumları olmayan bir küreşeklinde kurulmuştu.
Adem ile Melek Tawus
Melek Tawus Tanrı’ nın yasaklamasına rağmen Adem’e buğday yemesini söyledi.Adem buğdayı yedi,karnı şişti.Makatı olmadığından acı çekti.
Ebedi Ağaç
Başlangıçta hiç birşey yoktu, Tanrı’nın emriyle bir ağaç yükseldi, Ebedi Ağaç.90.000 yıl karanlıklar arasında uçan Melek Tawus bu ağaca kondu.Tanrı’ nın emirlerini bekledi.
3 Defa
Yezidiler Günde üç defa yüzlerini güneşe döner dua ederler.Düneş onlar için kutsaldır.
Çember
Etrafına çember çizilmiş bir yezidi, çizen tarafından silininceye kadar çıkamaz.Çember onlar için kutsaldır, kendilerini gerçekleştirebildikleri yer olarak kabul edilir.
Dilek Ağacı
Yezidilerde dilek ağacına çaputlar bağlanır ve çocuğu olmayan bir kişi ağacın altına bir beşik koyar ki çocukları olsun.
