How Do You Like Your Eyes?
Hold on. Yes, this photo is at first glance mildly creepy and gross. Frying an eyeball like an egg? However, I want to explain the story behind this photo manipulation piece. In a painting class, one of my classmates was painting a portrait of St. Lucy (who happens to be my confirmation saint). Part of St. Lucy’s iconography involves her being depicted holding a plate of eyes as there are different legends that revolve around her having her eyes removed as part of her martyrdom. St. Lucy is the patron saint of the blind. Anyhow, while my classmate was painting, our art professor jokingly said something similar to, “I would like my eyes over easy.” I envisioned this, and I could not resist bringing it to life in this mash-up of two photographs.
Process
I combined the two images below I found on Pexel.com and used Photoshop to merge the egg and the eye into one image.
