Salt & Pepper Shakers - 2016

Second Year Project: Salt & Pepper Shakers
For this project I had to design a Salt and Pepper Shaker out of ceramic material. The shakers were both identical and within this I had to capture the story of both salt and pepper in one. Ergonomics was very important for this project.
Understanding Salt and Pepper - The How / Where / Why.
Concepts: "Concept One, is the one I moved forward with"
Working on different formations
Although no matter what, two identical forms can't fit together the way I intended. Therefore worked on new shape concepts.
Meaning behind the new design:
Square form at the bottom circle form at the top, they meet together in the middle to unite and become one. As salt and pepper sit together side by side on a dinning table.
The square form represents the salt and it is at the bottom because salt comes from below 'the sea'. The circle form represents the pepper and it is at the top because pepper comes from above 'the trees'.
The cut out form throughout the shape is both, to create an engaging form as well as a pouring option 'A different way of using the shaker'.
Final Outcome
THANK YOU
