21th Issue - Melting Ice in Thunder Bay

The winter between 2015 and 2016 was not very cold in general. We had lots of snow but warmer temperatures.
In March, we spent a day to Silver Harbor, a small park and boat launch on the shore of Superior Lake, facing the Sleeping Giant.
Silver Harbor is a place I often went during my stay in Thunder Bay. Out of town, it gives a nice view on the Sleeping Giant. It is also a great location to watch the ice melting.
I brought only the Minolta SRT101 loaded with Kodak Portra 160. The light was soft with a bit of haze. Perfect condition for a low contrasted film such as Portra.

The waterfall shots were taken at Kakabeka Falls later on the season. It’s a popular waterfall outside of Thunder Bay. It’s entirely frozen during the winter. By going there often in the spring, you might be able to catch the ice melting and liberating the falls. In that period, the stream is obviously stronger due to a large amount of melted snow and ice. The water turns into a brown colour which tones up with the trees around.
You have to wait until the mid-summer to see the green of the trees with a somehow clearer water.
Few other shots were taken with my iPhone during a walk at the campground of Dog Lake, Northwest of Ontario after Lappe.
