Children's Book Final

The goal for this project was to execute the design of a children's book based off of any song of our choice.  Regardless of the lyrics, the aesthetic had to complement that of a book you would see for a child.

When I first heard the concept of the project and was told that we could choose any song, I immediately thought of "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey because it reminds me of my childhood and some of the best times of my life with my best friend by my side.  Nostalgia was immediately triggered, so naturally, that was the song choice.  As far as design choices go, I wanted it to seem very childlike.  I initially wanted a seemingly elaborative design on one side of the spread, followed by a simple illustration that included the lyrics or words.  Once I began designing, the idea of crayons popped into my head, which is where the texture for the illustrative designs initially began.

The process was long, tedious, and supported by plenty of coffee.  I began with blank spreads and a mind full of wonder.  Once ideas started forming about where I was going with the project, it flowed quickly.  Eventually, all of my spreads were completed then switched over to InDesign, which was then sent to a printing company called Blurb once the spreads were exactly how they were supposed to be.  After a long wait, the book finally arrived in the mail.

The amount of knowledge I gained in this process is overwhelming.  For one, I felt like I was thrown into a whole new world.  It didn't take long to catch on, though.  Although I already knew how to illustrate, I feel as if I learned more tricks to the program.  As for the biggest thing I learned, it is definitely printing a book.  I had no idea it was as simple as it is.
