Designing for Multiple Communities: Housing
Integrating Communities
Multi-generational Housing for Refugees and Students with Families
Boston, MA

Recently arrived refugee populations need flexible housing, affordable food, and childcare in existing populations that will welcome them. In parallel, graduate students with families and/or children, require similar amenities, and can provide the tolerant immersion and community services that refugees require. The two populations benefit from communally-focused environments that still allow for the independence promoted by private apartments. These communities are integrated in an adaptively reused concrete slab & mushroomcolumned factory building in Boston, MA.
