I took this on as a personal project, wanting to explore a new User Interface design that would benefit Village Books' community of readers with an improved way of interacting with the beloved store. Also with this project is a re-imagined seasonal publication known to Village Books' customers as The Chuckanut Reader.
My research began with the current website to assess the current visual elements, layout, and content. Then I went to study, compare, and gather inspiration from other online book e-commerce sites.

Heading into Adobe Xd I started exploring layouts for both web and mobile. Inspired to move to a more modern layout that's clean and product-focused and having font choices bold with a splash of personality. I decided on a neutral color palette, wood, and paper textures, which I felt tied into the store's look and feel with its wood shelving, hardwood flooring, and of course many stories written down on pages and pages of paper.

I wanted users to feel like they were at the store getting lost in the stacks of books while online when they may not have had the time to go in person. I felt like this design was a viable option that would benefit users' shopping experience with the ability to easily navigate to see featured books, staff recommendations, or head to the instore community events and enjoy the many blog articles, all within a refreshed look.
