Building a Future with Her Campus Hofstra

At Her Campus, the number one online magazine for college women, pre-professionals get the experience they need to ready themselves for a future in the magazine industry. In this promotional video, Her Campus Hofstra team members discuss what it's like being involved in a growing media company dedicated to empowering women around the globe.
"Being a part of Her Campus gives you a gateway into the world of magazine writing," President and Campus Correspondent Hailey Oliveri said. "You are in a group, you have deadlines, you have editors--you have your roles as a member. It's giving girls who are really interested in magazine publishing a first look at what it's really like to be part of an editorial staff."
Oliveri became President of Her Campus Hofstra in 2015. During her time in charge, she helped her team move up from a Bronze level, the lowest ranking chapter, to a Pink level, the highest ranking chapter, in a single semester. Her staff consists of over 40 contributing writers, editors, photographers, graphic designers and more. Their social media accounts have hundreds of dedicated followers and the chapter is continuing to make it's mark on Hofstra University's campus.
"Her Campus has always been kind of an outlet to me," Treasurer and Contributing Writer Raven Takach said. "Being a part of Her Campus opens me up to a whole new world of journalism and a whole new group of people."
Emily Sauchelli, a newly hired Contributing Writer, stressed the all-inclusive nature of the team. "If somebody has a problem with an article, somebody helps each other out. We are always there for each other in case somebody needs us."
Being involved in the Her Campus team can lead to big breaks in the magazine world. Writers are often scouted for internships, special events and interviews. Former team members have gone on to work at several big-name magazines including InStyle, UsWeekly, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan and Billboard, just to name a few.
"We just have each other's backs," Sauchelli said. "It's a tight-knit group of girls and we all just have a passion for writing and for journalism--whether it be print, broadcast, whatever--we all love what we do."
