This is the original vector illustration. I made a calligraphic brush in Illustrator to produce the lettering.
I executed the illustration to scale in Illustrator so that I could measure out my margins. On the wall, I marked key points along the path to make sure I hit them when drawing. I loosely then drew guides for the baseline and x-height and then loosely wrote the word. Chalk throughout the drawing phase for easy cleanup once the mural was complete.
After writing word, I used the broad side of the chalk and angled it to the same angle used in the original illustration. I then drew the rest by following as closely as I could to the orginal.
I used black chalkboard paint so that my kids could draw and interact with the mural.
