'A Soap For Cardiff' is a university set design project to design a Chinese restaurant set, upstairs flat and exterior backlot that would be appropriate for a television soap opera such as EastEnders, Pobol Y Cwm etc.
The soap opera would be based in Cardiff and therefore the first area of research for me was finding an interesting exterior to use as my Chinese restaurant. I found my exterior on City Road.
I produced 8 AutoCAD drawings of my set, adding appropriate detail for my oriental elements and creating a list of material, visual and prop references.
From my drawings, I was able to construct a 1:50 scale white card model for the interior, exterior and upstairs flat.
Three concept visuals were created using Adobe Photoshop CC and a Wacom Intuos tablet.
