Nr. 7 Costumes with movable feather wings

This year we made two costumes with movable feather wings for the carnival. We used over 8000 turkey-, rooster- and ostrich feathers. One frame is made of styrofoam and wire. For the second we took hard foam panels. For the wings to move, we used a ball-bearing. The helmet and the armor are made out of worbla. The Petticoat needed 25 metres tulle and has over 1000 flames on it. If you want to see the movement of the costumes please go to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsUWXdj2fgo
The bracer was made of worbla. It has velcro strips on the back.
The claw has a lot of tree bark on it which we painted brown and black. The helmet was rolled in rice, so it looked like pinworms.
The pullover is decorated with leather, eyelets and rivets.
I used silver covered shoulder pads to create the effect of a metal plate.
This was the biggest piece of work. First I had to learn to solder. Then I covered the frame with fabric and rhinestones.
I wanted to use this as a collar. But then it was in the way with the wings, so I sewed it to the headdress, which was then almost three kilogram.
For the petticoat or underskirt I used 25 metres of tulle.
The front of dress is covered in bling bling, because it's an eye catcher.
We where overwhelmed by the reaction of the people!
