Fixture for Khadi India
Brief:
To identify and observe different forms of fixtures existing in the current retail environment, understand the drawbacks present in them and design fixtures that address these drawbacks and enhance the product visibility.

Introduction:
Khadi is the tradition of India. Khadi is not just a cloth, it’s a whole movement started by Mahatma Gandhi. The movement aimed at boycotting foreign goods and promoting Indian goods, there by improving India’s economy.Khadi now has a large variety of products for example foot ware, handicrafts, furniture, stationery etc. . in a very reasonable rate.

Process

Research:
Started research with a visit to Khadi Emporium and observed different products inthe store how they were displayed in the store and the fixtures used for stackingthe products.

Current Senario :
Khadi has a large variety of products such as foot ware, handicrafts, furniture, stationery etc.Currently the Khadi store is very unorganized and the products arenot arranged in an organised fashion and are spread all over the store. It is difficultfor a customer to locate any product or category of intrest in the store.Products are stacked over each other reducing product visibility to the customer.

For instance in the stationary products such as hand made paper, files etc..wereplaced along side walking sticks and some besides textile products. The stackingwas also in such a manner that it was difficult to retrive a single sheet of handmade paper with out damaging the rest.

Propossed solution

For this project i have taken up the stationery area of Khadi. The design solution involves creating a seperate display unit for the stationary products in which issues such as product visibility and accessability have been addressed.

Focus is to design a fixture that could incorporate the entire Khadi stationery products, so that a separate area or a section could be made in the store.

The fixture is designed in such a way that minimum of 80-100 sheets, as opposed to the current senario of 500-600, can be placed in a way that it is easy to take and view and also is not intimidating to the customer.

The working prototype will be made detachable so that it can be transported easily .The final product will be made in bamboo.
