Liminality | In Progress

This semester I am exploring the concept of liminality, and what it has to offer towards designing. Liminality refers to the transitional space or time between two static instances. This can be exacerbated by prolonging thresholds, or blurring lines between transitions. Liminality is an ambiguous, confusing, and changing state.
The first step towards my understanding of liminality was to create diagrams that represented what liminality meant to me.
The second project was to create an axonometric drawing that was based off of my liminality diagrams that explored liminal spaces in an architectural realm.
Currently, I am exploring an area of Kingsessing, Philadelphia and designing a liminal space between the industrial sector and the waterfront of the Schuylkill. The idea is to create a biophilic factory, one that combines nature and industry, as well as work and play. This is backed by the idea that exposure to nature lessens work stress and mental fatigue.
