Lunchtime Talk: A Curriculum In Pictures

the lunchtime talks are a series of public expert lectures, organised by the media design department at dhbw ravensburg, germany since 2011.

everyone is invited to come and bring delicious lunch, while the speakers provide food for thought. guests so far included ken garland, ruedi baur, jost hochuli, nic bourquin, karin schmidt-friderichs, russ bestley, dafi kühne, catherine berger and many others. as a design response and tribute, students design individual posters in relation to the guest’s work or lecture topic.

I had the chance to create a poster for the lunchtime talk with Prof. Jimmy Schmid from the Hochschule der Künste Bern (HKB).
First ideas and drafts, of which none did make it.
Another draft, that was iterated a long time. It didn't make it in the end but the typographic
experiment helped with the flag design. I tried to create room with letters and the space between them.

This is the first final version. The typography creates the texture and thus the Swiss flag.
This is the second final version consisting of four different words.
With strong perspectives the viewer is drawn closer and to the text.
It also fits some of the topics Jimmy Schmid is talking about:
spatial design and signage.
