Personal Project: Album Covers

I decided to do a personal project in november and try to do an album cover + logo each day for 30 days, I want do do more album covers and logos so i decided to do this project to both practice some logo designs as well as have some album art examples to show what i can do. I managed to get 24 done and finished off the rest after completing up a hectic second last college semester.
Above are the album covers i designed. I tried Different things from landscapes to people, abstract and experimental. Some of my favourites were exploring outside my comfort zone. I downloaded several new programmes to mess around with but they are mostly photography and photoshop based. The images took anywhere from 2 hours to 8 hours depending on their complexity and if i was familiar with what i was doing. Some examples of my favourites:
Trying to come up with some band names i asked on facebook for people to submit some ideas as well as searching for strange words i though would be cool for a band name. The name Mukamutara is an Egyptian baby name. This was the first album cover i designed for this project and the idea for the album came from the name. I wanted to do a landscape with a floating inverted pyramid i made the pyramid quickly in google Sketchup, the landscape shots are combined images from hook head in Co. Wexford whereas the the lights are all from long exposure night shots i took in Dublin. The logo was not designed until after the cover was completed.
The 90 Days of Silence band name of suggested by a classmate. The image was done separately and not influenced by the name at all but i thought the two looked well together. The image was done by mixing concrete and ice textures, and using level adjustments layers to isolate parts of a face and hand applying different photoshop brushes to the image.  Th band name was made by resizing each word and then cutting them up and moving the pieces around.
This album cover was designed by mixing photos of an anatomy skeleton with some warped photoshop brushes and textures The main texture of the background is of a broken tv i have I then played around with color blending option until i got a color that i liked. Atrophy (of body tissue or an organ) means to waste away, so i tried cutting away as much parts of the letters as i could with them still being legible.
The logo for this album cover was done a more like a freehand illustration rather than a logo design. The album cover its self was a bit of an accident. The main shape that looks like a brain is actually fairy liquid and oil in milk, I played around with some filters in photoshop until i got a look i was happy with, i also applied the same effect to some microscope pictures of spiders legs and added them ad the base of the brain as the looked a but like severed nerves or something,
This Image was also another happy accident. The image is a photo of my broken tv, sometimes when you switch it on it would leave behind an image on the screen for several minutes and all the colors on tv would go weird and eventually start to bleach out the image until i dissapeared completly. I happened to turn it on when there was a dolphin on tv and i took a photo of it, I then played around with the colours and added some water droplet on glass textures. The logo was just an attempt of doing a heavy metal style logo, it could probably do with a little more work done on it.
This was one of the later ones i did, I was messing around with lights and fractal images as well as making space art in photoshop and some illustrator elements. I just had fun with this one playing around with textures and shapes blending them and changing colors until i got an image i was happy with. The logo was just playing around with some hindi style fonts, as wit the last logo this one could do with a little bit of work also.
This image probably took the longest out of all the images, I took a photo of a buddha statue in my neighbours Garden, originally i was going to do a photo manipulation image. but i ended up doing some quick edits in photoshop and making him look like a cyborg instead and then printing the image out as a reference and doing a drawing of the image instead, drawing all the wires took the longest. and when it came to coloring the image i decided to put each color on a separate layer so i could mess around with them until a got something i liked.
Above are some alternate, unfinished designs some of which i may work on and use in the future.
Above are all the logos that were made for the project, some came out better than others but i learned alot doing this project in both image making and logo design.
