LAYERS
National - this is a multi-layered notion. It's hard to tell where does it start, where is the end of this word's meaning. Gottfried Semper, well-known architect and theoretic of the era when the National Museum was built, was interested in analysing the etymology and meaning of words. While analysing the German words for 'wall' (Wand vs. Mauer), he says that the uniqueness of the word 'Wand' is planarity. The origin of the word also goes back to the notion of clothing (Gewand), thinking about walls creating the clothing, in other terms the fabric or textile, of the building. While the word 'Mauer' means structure, spatiality. One doesn't exist as a whole without the other, only by being laid upon each other (layers). Our book cover design is also based on this double layer: the deep sculpturesque cutout and the plain ornaments created by the fabric of text.

RÉTEGZŐDÉS
Nemzeti - egy többszörösen rétegzett kifejezés. Nehéz megmondani, hol kezdődik és hol ér véget a szó jelentése. A Nemzeti Múzeum építésének idején a kor ismert építésze és teoretikusa – Gottfried Semper – is a szavak, kifejezések behatárolásával/etimológia elemzésével foglalkozott. A német eredetű Wand/fal – Mauer/falazat fogalmak vizsgálata során fogalmazza meg gondolatait, miszerint a Wand sajátossága a síkbeliség. A szó eredete is az öltözékre utal (Gewand), amit az épület öltözékének, kvázi textiljének, szövetének tekint, míg a Mauer szó a térbeliséget, a szerkezetet jelenti. Az egyik a másik nélkül nem alkotna egészet, csak egymásra rétegződésükkel. A borítótervünk is erre a kettős rétegre épül, azaz a plasztikus mélyre – kivágott rész - és a síkszerű ornamentikára, a betűkből beszőtt szövetre.
MúzeumCafé számára Sztranyák Gergely építésszel közösen terveztük meg a borítót.
