Synchroballistic images from the 2008 Grand Prix Season, shot for the Red Bulletin, the (almost) impartial Formula One magazine. Shot on a specially adapted medium format analog panoramic camera, where the film moves past a narrow slit inside the camera during the exposure, matching the speed of the moving cars. As the camera is stationary, and the film moving, the background is "blurred" into horizontal lines while the moving cars are sharp. There are however subtle clues in the images that betray the temporal nature of the process, such as the Bridgestone logo on the tires being distorted around the tires circumference. These images are unretouched scans of the original negatives.
These were shot in Barcelona in February 2008 during the practice sessions and at the British Grand Prix in July. The last image is Lewis Hamilton passing the chequered flag as he wins the race at Silverstone.
