The name of Tampines is said to come from the name of the tempinis or ironwood trees. It is no coincidence that Tampines has a name derived from a tree, the estate is rich with flora and fauna for an urban public housing. In a trip to Tampines, I came across many fruit trees and even some of their old school playgrounds were inspired by tropical fruits.
