Chicago’s Mercy Home Offers Help and Hope

Under the direction of partner Ernest Codilis, the Chicago-area law firm of Codilis & Associates, PC, works with clients in the financial services and mortgage lending industries. A strong supporter of charitable causes, the firm contributes to the Mercy Home for Boys and Girls and other family-focused nonprofit organizations.

The Mercy Home serves young people in Greater Chicago who have experienced abuse, neglect, or poverty. With the goal of providing the nurturing and supportive environment necessary to helping children thrive, Mercy Home operates more than one dozen therapeutic living spaces for individuals aged 11 years to 21 years old. In addition, the organization maintains a dedicated “aftercare” program and a mentoring program that provide continuing guidance and support after the transition from a group residential home.

Established in the late 1880s by Irish-born Catholic Archbishop Patrick Feehan, the Mercy Home originally addressed the needs of homeless boys living in some of the most dangerous parts of the city. The group of priests who worked with the archbishop to direct the charity created a plan to run it as a haven for working youth under the protection of Chicago’s Archdiocese.

Since those early days of stewardship, the Mercy Home has helped tens of thousands of under-resourced young people to thrive, succeed, and achieve their dreams.
