The initial name of LALA is Griffith Observatory. Project started from researching about key ideas: astronomical observatory, observatory, astronomy, sky, telescope, observation, exhibition, stars, mythology, alien, space, curiosity, discover, and Griffith.

The idea is about the stars, sky, day and night. The space and stars are always there, even when the sun is bright and we cannot see most of them with our naked eyes. Logo works as a set of two separate parts of Griffith typography. They never presented together, like day and night never exist at the same time. Each part of logo set represents the ongoing astronomy during day and night. 

 

The mission of Griffith Observatory is "Inspire everyone to observe, ponder, and understand the sky." 

It's one of the most popular tourist sites of LA. The Observatory is opened to everyone, most of their programs are free and no need to reserve in advance. They offer educational programs for children, public star parties for astronomical conversations, planetarium shows, and film screenings. 

Also, they have great sites to see amazing cityscape of LA. Griffith Observatory should have more playful, friendly and beautifully pronounced name. Something like LALA: La Astronomía Los Angeles. 

The very graphic A with a right angled line and a diagonal line represents our eyes. At LALA, people look at the things: sky, exhibitions, films, LA and etc. People visit LALA to look at something. The eye shaped A rotates around and keep observing the world and the universe. The universe is alive, constantly changing. Like the universe, LALA logo is flexibly changing according to their contextual conditions. It's geometric quality and flexibility creates exquisite harmonies with space photographs, typography, grids and other forms. 

The most representative color of LALA is black and white, which represents the universe and shiny stars. 

This very unique Color Palette is inspired by the color of stars. They have different colors according to their temperature. The most representative five colors are extracted and modified into web friendly colors.
