Back in school, when I was taking Graphic Design, as part of the typography portion of the course, we had to come up with a creative way to display one font, using Adobe Illustrator. So I decided to make an ‘ABC’s Font Book’ using a typeface that translates to ‘cockroach’ in Spanish! At the time, I didn’t realizing how long a project of this magnitude would take to complete.

I would have to make 54 pages in total for the type of book I wanted to create. It would consist of front and back covers with every letter having a two page spread. Each letter of the alphabet would have one page with a 1920's scene, which would include a single word representing that letter. Then each word would be made into a small square logo and added to the scene. For the finishing touch, the letter would reflect some aspect in the picture, such as the 'zing' of an arrow or the exhaust of a car. The corresponding page would have the word created as a typography design.

My web professor used to tease me that I might not finish such a lofty endeavor before the project was due. I worked long hours, often 14 hour days, and managed to finish the project within the two and half week deadline.

The original book was created as a ‘flip book’ that can be viewed online with pages that turn from one to another. I’ve recreated the book with external borders, text outlines and coloured logo backgrounds, all of which didn’t exist in the earlier version.
