Meta the Monster

Meta the Monster is a point-and-click game made in Unity, used as a tool as part of the Empathetic Game Design research project. Our team worked in conjunction with West Virginia University to study how character perspective in games affects empathy in children.

Our team built the tool and West Virginia University conducted the study. The game was entered into the International Communication Conference in Japan in 2016.

Giselle wrote 3 of the 6 scenarios in the two different perspectives: first person perspective (identification) with the player written as the titular character and third person perspective (differentiation) with the player written as a facilitator of the titular character.

Kaitlin created all of the background art and art for the pick-ups.

Janice created and designed all of the characters and did the art for the title screen.

Eric Walsh was our programmer. Sebastian Anderson was our co-writer. Our director was James Malazita.
