Salvadoran Myths and Legends:
An introduction to some of El Salvador's most fascinating folktales.
For this university project I decided to create some tarot-like cards which depict different characters and creatures from some of my favorite Salvadoran folktales.
As a Salvadoran person who is studying in Germany I have gotten to know quite a lot of people who are honest about the fact that they don't really know that much about my country or Latin America in general. So I decided to use this project as a way to introduce people to our culture through the use of some of our many rich folktales. The stories of characters such as 'El Cipitio', a being that was cursed with living forever as a small boy with backward feet, and others.
I wanted to keep the designs relatively simple, and I based the characters on my favorite versions of the stories (as expected from folktales there are several slightly different versions of each story to be found).
With a short summary of the specific story on the back, and a relatively simple design for the cards with emphasis on the simple watercolor illustrations I was hoping that people would be attracted to the cards and would want to collect them.
