Providing simple and decent homes for low income families has always been the mission of Habitat for Humanity.  However, with a mandate from the national board requiring all new homes be built to ENERGY STAR standards, affiliates were forced to make simple and decent more energy efficient.  I became the Green Consultant for the Site and Construction Committee of the local Habitat affiliate in order to help guide them to a more energy responsible future.  After tweaking some floor plans and using some new construction methods five donated adjacent lots in north Fort Smith are scheduled to be the first sustainable neighborhood in the community.
