I collaborated with Bookblock on a series of four illustrated notebooks inspired by the Adriatic coast in central Italy. They are available online as part of the Bookblock Editions Collection, along with the notebooks of eleven other illustrators. All photos are courtesy of Bookblock.

Inspiration

The series is inspired by the summers I've spent in Ancona, a city along the coast in central Italy. At the edge of the city there's an elevator built into the side of a cliff, which connects the city to an urban beach below. The rocky beach is paved with concrete, and from the top of the cliff there's an incredible view of a semi-circle of sunbathers extending out into the sea. This view inspired the sunbathers notebook. The other notebook covers were similarly inspired by this intersection of water and urban life, in Ancona and surrounding areas.
