This was a commissioned project to create a functional prosthetic hand. My client was born without a left hand and was unsatisfied with his standard claw-style medical prosthetic, but could not afford a medical grade motorized prosthetic. He tasked me with creating an affordable and functional hand prosthetic, and wanted the design to be based off the phantom pain prosthetic from his favorite video-game, Metal Gear Solid 5.
Design Process
Given the complexity of the design, we decided that the parts should be created in CAD and 3D printed to ensure tight tolerances and durability. We also concluded that an all mechanical design would be the most reliable and cost efficient solution.
