Balholm is a family owned farm orchard located deep inside the Sognefjord of Norway, an area historically known for its abundant fruit production. We were asked to create a brand platform for a new range of ecologic fruit wines to tap into the renewed interest in old nordic food and beverage traditions. The client was looking for a flexible way to convey the many stories, mythologies and anecdotes historically important for the village of Balestrand associated to fruit.
Fruit wine used to be the only local wine in Scandinavia before imported grape wine eradicated this traditional drink category. Women were mostly responsible for making this wine and Balestrand is also known for its remarkable historical female figures. We created a range inspired by the language and typography of vintage fruit wrappers, creating an intuitive link to fruit, allowing a flexible naming and informal visual storytelling dedicated to the local female heroines.
