Case Study
A few years ago a buddy I had been doing design work for asked me to do a quick mock up and video to promote a product that wasn't anything more than an idea at the time. With very little time and very little to go off, I had to imagine what the User Interface and User experience would look like. In this case study I revisit that project taking the time to really consider the UX/UI and explain the process.
Design Objectives
Take a hardware application and turn it into a mobile application.
create a flexible environment for viewing and editing realtime transcripts.
Develop a clear visual language that is familiar to the user while providing unique features to the application.

Themes
The plain fact about this app is that its function is not very exciting. However, no one wants to feel like they aren't enjoying the experience of using an application they'll use every day. Therefore creating multiple designs that appeal to a range of users and provides a comfortable and engaging user experience was a very important design goal.
There is also a very practical use for having these design options. The primary use will be during the day time indoors. therefore a paper like design would be more suitable. The other use may be occurring at night as a lawyer pours over testimony and notes and needs a darker gentler color palette for long viewing when the eyes are the weakest.
Responsive
The basic premise of this project was to convert a hardware application to a mobile app that could work on all platforms and give the user maximum flexibility. Therefore this design must be responsive and scaleable.
Scalability
The original application was built into a custom device that had a 6 inch screen. Converting this design to a mobile app meant creating a grid and layout that would allow it to function on multiple screen sizes. The initial design was created on mid sized device cause that is believed to be the most functional for the purpose to which this app is meant to serve.
