Branding Agile Learning Labs
Some of the design work that goes into shaping our public persona
Technologists are not the most design-conscious of creatures. But by taking a novel and playful approach to design, and being rigorous in keeping it clean and neat, we have succeeded in creating an impression of Agile Learning Labs as a relaxed, assured, creative and fun place to go to learn. Which is exactly what we are!
Our logo. Yes, the font is very similar to the Terminator font, because that's my favorite movie.
The Agile Learning Labs homepage.
Our client page carries the bouncing ball theme forward, just to make it less blah.
The elephant on the cover of our book crops up in lots of other materials. The cover font, Fontin, gets used a lot as well. We deliberately avoided any Agile Learning Labs branding on the book, other than some stylistic continuity. The book stands alone, and shouldn't be weighed down.
A handout echoes our book cover image.
I wanted our business cards to have a picture, so people who meet us at a busy conference can have a helpful mnemonic, but I didn't want us to look like real estate agents.
When you graduate from one of our Certified ScrumMaster classes, you are taught the secret handshake and you get a button. Not everything has to conform to the company colors--that seems too corporate, and this piece wanted to be cartoonish and goofy.
This poster is done in the same style as the illustrations in our books. We give it away to all our students, and at events.
We had a lot of grungy raw footage we'd shot quick and dirty during our classes, so we decided to make a one-minute video for our home page out of it. It's not Lawrence of Arabia, but we have found that the quick-and-dirty (ie, non-corporate) style helps people feel comfortable that they'll have fun in our classes.
A simplified single-color logo serves as letterhead. Every employee has installed our "house fonts" which include Fontin for titles and Calluna for text. We use a lot of Futura, too!
Our mini-book was designed to be small and delightful.
I was pleased when visiting a client site to see not only a well-thumbed copy of The Elements of Scrum on a desk under some reading glasses, but an Agile Learning Labs beach ball. You can see an Agile Learning Labs shaprie on the desk, too, if you have the eyes of a raptor.
