I recently took on a job in an unusual way: a new author in need of an illustrator reached out via social media. He narrowed the applicants down to 13 artists and asked that each of us copy, then improve upon and improvise, a drawing he would provide. Here is a time-lapse video of my copying the sketch he provided, then adding in some more detail. I was called almost immediately, asking if i had used some sort of "computer program" to "make his drawing look like a movie had made it." I explained that, no, it was a program that recorded each of MY pencil strokes on the iPad, then put them together to make a time-lapse "movie". In reality, it took me about 45 minutes to copy the chisel drawing. I got the job.
