This motion graphics project was completed for the recent 2010 JLS UK Tour. The brief was to create simple, graphic pieces for each song. The fact that they were to be seen on a really large screen, meant that the simpler and bolder ideas worked really well. I used After Effects and Cinema 4D.
JLS are a double Brit Award winning boy band who became famous after competing on the UK's X Factor show. They have just finished their sell-out headlining UK tour, which ended on 9th March at the London Hammersmith Apollo. I was lucky enough to get to produce these sequences for the tour which were displayed at the rear of the stage throughout the concert. Each piece was specifically produced to compliment each song. I either timed out the edits and animations to suit, or used audio files of their songs to drive the animations.
I must also take the time here to mention that the show producer was Beth Honan and that the Director was Andy Saunders. A colleague of mine, Gareth Price also produced some other pieces of work for the concert, however, everything you see here I created, animated and edited. Of course the live action footage used in the intro piece was shot by the director. Also a colleague, Alan Smith, originally modelled (and provided to me) the Beat Again heart and JLS Logo.
There are two ways of viewing this project. The first verison of each movie shows the graphics as they were supplied to the client. The second series of movies show the graphics on-screen, in a live performance, which I filmed on my Canon stills camera. This of course includes the band, lighting and crowd. Please excuse the low resolution nature of these movies, but I'm sure you appreciate that I was hardly in a position to take in a nice HD camera to film the concert! They still show how the pieces worked alongside the lighting, choreography and above all the reaction of the crowd is fantastic to hear, as the performance is of course a combination of everything - and they really go wild! I hope you enjoy them and especially how they worked in the actual concert.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this project. Please let me know your thoughts and, if you like, connect with me either here on Behance, or on one of my ther networks (listed on my profile page). Take care.
