Creating a solution for medical adherence
Chronic illness are treated by long term pharmacotherapy. Even though pharmacotherapy is an effective treatment method, the benefits are not recognized, because about 50% of patients do not take their medications as prescribed.
Identifying Patient's Pain Points
After identifying medication adherence as an issue in medical field, I interviewed people to find out pain points. After interviews, I discovered that patients have time to take medications due to 1. lack of communication with doctors 2. lack of informations about medicines 3. busy schedule
Choosing One Medical as a platform
One medical is a primary care group that offers 24/7 virtual medical team access to the patients. Since one medical offers a solution for better communication with patients, my team and I decide to choose One Medical's mobile application to solve medical adherence.
Finding the main persona
In order for me to identify user's pain point, I created a survey to find more informations about patients who use One Medical application. Prior to the survey, I created proto-persona which is a 17-years-old girl with chronicle disease who sees doctors regularly and has many pills to take, but based on user interview and survey, I identified that users from One medical are patients with non-chronicle diseases.
Usability Testing and Design reiterations
Main dash board was the first page for patients to use coaching feature, so it was important to show the most information patients need on the screen. Based on the usability testing result, I decided to show prescribed medications along with dosage, information about the symptom.
To make the feature usable, I created user flow for the product
During our final usability test, I found out some of the users do not feel comfortable seeing their ongoing illnesses. For the next iteration of the feature, I want to make the buttons editable so patients can keep their privacy.
