5419: Garment Construction [Wintersession 2017]

5 4 1 9
This look, part of my 5419 collection, was created January-February 2017. The full collection of designs may be viewed here [5419]. Three pieces are featured in this look.

The first is a high-collar, open-backed cropped cotton-blend top. It features side slits and a dropped shoulder, but no sleeves. Its center back is left open, and the shirt closes with three hook-and-eye fastenings on the back of the neck.

The second is a silk-organza dress with oversized sleeves. Inspired by the Chinese qipao, it features a mandarin collar, hand-made frog closures and side slits that rise up to two inches below the armhole. It also takes from traditional western tailoring, with its darts, sleeve caps, and cuffs.

The third and final article featured here is a pair of high-waisted, oyster-white cropped pants. These pants are semi-casual, with an elastic waistband on the back and pockets. The lining of the pocket and lining feature the same striped fabric seen in the high-collared top.

Movement was an important consideration for the design and fabric choice for the dress:
The original design for this look was as follows. Some minor changes have been made, such as the usage of different fabrics on the collar and for the pants.
