Matters: Mobile Phone Social Experiment

Collaborative Practice Brief set by Craig Oldham:

To create an exhibition on a subject that matters to us.
Exhibition Design

Myself and a couple other students created a social experiment around mobile phones to highlight how dependable we are on them.

To do this we took away anyone's phone whom came into the exhibition space in order to create anxiety and make the person present without the distraction of their mobile phone.

We then asked the participants to leave their phone switched on with full sound and notifications on and displayed them in a locked glass cabinet to make an exhibition out of the mobile phones themselves. Many people stood around the cabinet to either view their own phone or to delve into someone else's private information.

We found most people were fine to give up their mobile phones however, a handful would refuse and therefore would be using their phones while walking around the different exhibitions thus, not fully appreciating what was in front of them.
