Hatillo Cromático

Hatillo Cromatico is the project name for the artistic intervention on Ave. Pauji Wall (located in Los Naranjos, Caracas, Venezuela). Sofia Simon, conceived the concept and was the executing artist, for the completed Chromatic Nebula mural painting.
The mural represents the palette of El Hatillo metropolitan municipality, through color units that merge with other color units in proximity.
It was executed as an interactive project: the project launched a call within community members to choose the colors to be represented in the mural painting. Community members were to share photos on Instagram, that  represented the color scheme of the Municipality. The images were accessed by the hashtag #hatillocromatico.

Phase 1 - Engagement through Social Media
A call to action was launched in order for community members to express their vision of the color palette in their Municipality. Those colors were included in the Chromatic Nebula. Through this methodology, the project was of an interactive nature.

Phase 2 - Workshop on Color
A workshop was conducted through the Department of Arts and Culture of El Hatillo Municipality. The workshop focused on activities bound to refine the chromatic eye (in other words, the ability to tell colors apart). Each participant was to produce their own mixture of paint, to be included in the mural painting.

Phase 3 - Execution and Completion of Chromatic Nebulose
The first part of the mural painting included a call to all community members to paint the rough initial patches of color. For this first part, knowledge or technique was not necessary, all the job required was broad brush and enthusiasm.
For the second part, the artist was left with her team to finish details with a complex mixture of paint and blurring.
