Mauritius, A Multicultural Island (Technique 2)

The project that I undertook was a Level 3 project which is the culmination of my degree programme at the University of Technology, Mauritius. Throughout this project, I was given the opportunity to demonstrate my creativity, intellectual abilities as well as my professionalism and communication skills through my work. I was given 6 titles and I had to choose one of them. The title I chose was “Exploring and Promoting a theme using Photo-Illustrations.” There were four options for the themes, namely: • Option 1: Mauritius, a multi-cultural island • Option 2: The stages and aspects of life • Option 3: Human and Nature Connection • Option 4: Childhood- 90s and 2020s I chose to explore and promote the first theme, which is, “Mauritius, a multi-cultural island. ” Mauritius can be considered as a Melting Pot of Flavours and Cultures. It brings together a wide range of cultures and ethnicities. It is almost like a world in one country. The reason I chose to explore the theme Mauritius, A Multi Cultural Island is to reflect this exotic and multicultural melange through photo illustrations artworks. I think that this is an appropriate medium in which to represent Mauritius’ multicultural background since it is in an ophthalmoception form, thus allowing people to instantly recognize the Mauritian identity when looking at the artworks. One of the major objectives and goals of this project is that I wanted to promote Mauritius’ multicultural background through the artworks. Descendants of English and French colonisers, African or Malagasy slaves, Indian indentured labourers or Chinese shopkeepers form the multicultural society of Mauritius.
