Redesign of the bookcover for Lionel Shriver's We Need to Talk About Kevin. After reading this novel for personal enjoyment I was distracted by the juxtaposition of cover and contents. The cover just did not do the creepiness of this book justice.
For my redesign, I focused the viewer's attention to three points – the title, the Orange Fiction prize seal, and the eyeball. The eyeball, sitting alone against a neutral backdrop, aludes to the novel's plotline and provides a degree of uneasiness that the original cover lacked. Eyeballs are rarely seen outside and separate from faces. This instance casts a ubiquitous organ, the eye, as matter out of place and fosters a disturbed energy.
