where woman fight societies' expectations of their behaviour and appearance.
In my WEARABLE TECHNOLOGIES class, I wanted to begin with what a body can do.
I charted out what sort of actions or gestures I wanted to begin thinking about.
History & Progression of Social Norms
I also started thinking about GIRLS and GIRLHOOD-- what kind of experiences and societal pressures
do girls feel when growing up? In summary, the bra began as freedom from the corset
(to achieve idealised 'hourglass-shaped' bodies), but alsocycled through a restraining and suppressio
Through time, women were subjected / subjected themselves to unrealistic ideals
and harmful behaviours and products in attempts to adhere to societal standards of beauty.
In America, first men were scrutinized for appearing topless in public in the 50s'.
Today, it is widely accepted. Women rights have progressed through time, but still lacks the same equality.
Future Scenario
In 5-7 years from now, society's definition of beauty revolves around the perfect selfie look.
Due to excessive use of social media platforms like Instagram and Snapchat, the beauty is having "ONE LOOK".
By having several instances of your "ONE LOOK", it proves your beauty is constant and genuine.

From the sketches, I decided to narrow my audience to focus my wearable as fuel
to fight for freedom of beauty/societal expectations and as a source of comfort and support.

Themes include textures and movement and female empowerment.
How it Works
2 main stances: Confidence & Defensive.
When the "Confident" gesture is made, the wearable extends the user in communicating BOLD and POWER.
When the "Defensive" gesture is made, the wearable shrouds the user convey COMFORT and PROTECTION.
When CONFIDENT, wearable sends light vibrations to guide user to confident posture.
When DEFENSIVE, wearable sends light vibrations which alternatively pulse to calm user.
A heat pack activates in accordance to body temperature, and when the body shows signs of menstrual stress.

This wearable aims to free the woman by:
1. featuring no straps (which were historically symbolic of restraint + suppression)
2. provide support (breasts need support especially in rigorous activities)
3. to literally put the power in her hands, because it's her body.
