Education City Mosque
AN ARCHITECTURAL MARVEL

One of the most unconventional and iconic architectures stand tall in the heart of Education City, Doha. Unlike traditional mosques, this mosque uses a sophisticated design language which is based on simple geometric shapes like triangles and rectangles. The triangles merge into a lattice structure to create non-geometric, organic and elegant forms that are in striking contrast to their basic building blocks.

The oval courtyard is an elegant fusion of traditional Islamic calligraphy and edgy geometric shapes. This combination gives the space a futuristic and modern feel while at the same time grounds it to its conservative origins.
The setting sun faces the courtyard and fills it with its golden light and dramatic shadows
Qur'anic ayahs (verses) beautify the inner walls of the oval courtyard, set in beautiful calligraphy in the Thuluth script
The triangular lattice with its organic form and limestone color makes the oval courtyard resemble a bird's nest when seen from the ground floor from the direction of the stairway
The landscaping surrounding the mosque further enhances its beauty and adds a soothing touch to the atmosphere
The oval form is repeated throughout the architecture, enhancing and continuing its organic look and conveying a welcoming and peaceful feel to the visitors
Another unique characteristic of the mosque is its high twin minarets that can be observed from a long distance and resemble ailerons
The beauty and magnificence of the minarets touch the sky during blue hour
The minarets are adorned with elegant calligraphy in Thuluth script, and are lit to create a bold presence
