Meaning Across Disciplines

This was my master project for the MA Graphic Design at The Cass, London Metropolitan University. The project (named Meaning Across Disciplines) aimed at creating a process that brought together unrelated disciplines. The ones I chose were Music and Astronomy, so the end result was a set of posters that represented five Led Zeppelin songs with Astronomy themes.

To achieve the results, I interviewed qualitatively and quantitatively a set of people. The quantitative research focused on sensorial dichotomies and how the music was perceived. Its results informed technical design decisions: composition, palette and production technique. The qualitative research focused on the lyrics and helped me decide which theme I would choose for each song.

The full posters:

Bron-yr-Aur-Stomp, a song about Robert Plant's dog, reinterpreted through the lens of Accretion, the natural gathering of matter by gravity.

Communication Breakdown, a song about miscommunication in a couple, reinterpreted as the magnetic solar storms the Sun blasts towards the Earth.

No quarter, which is about the soldiers that go to war without expecting return, I related this to the Voyager, our farthest reaching ship.

The Ocean, a metaphor of the audience and a black hole - source and end of everything.

Trampled Under Foot, a couple running around each other, such as binary stars.
